Why Vacation Homes Are Becoming a Hit

Vacation homes are becoming a hit with families with kids. I’ve been hearing friends and family rave about their latest vacation while feeling “at home”.  They rented vacation homes that pretty much catered to their every need.  This may sound like a dream come true, especially for family travelers.  So what exactly did they like?

1.       You Get Much More Space

Vacation homes are typically much more spacious than your average hotel rooms.  The kids have a larger play area and can run around the living room while watching their favorite TV shows

2.        Eat Healthy Food and Save Money While You’re at It

One of the big advantages of vacation homes is the attached kitchen. This is especially great for people with dietary restrictions and small kids. Instead of eating at restaurants all day, you can visit a nearby grocery store and get the fresh ingredients to enjoy a home-cooked meal. This is a handy way to save money.

3.       A Little Bit More Privacy

After a long day of visiting tourist sites, you can unwind by the pool area or the backyard without hearing conversations of other guests next door.  You won’t have to share the pool with others or worry about coming back later when there are less people swimming.

4.        You Can Bring the “Extras”

Screenshot from

How about bringing the bikes for a quick ride at the nearby park?  You can stop by for a picnic or a hike.  How about the dog?  Most homes are pet-friendly, too.

More and more websites are now catering to vacation rental properties.  Sites like HomeAway and VRBO are some that I’ve seen.

5.        Clean Clothes Before Going Home

Most vacation homes come with a washer and dryer.  You can dump the dirty clothes while you take a quick swim at the pool or watch TV with the kids.  How cool is it to have clean clothes when you get home – without paying for laundry services while on vacation?

If you specialize in renting vacation homes or selling packages that include one, see how Rezopia can help you market and sell these fabulous properties online!

Using Rezopia to Include Maps and Videos

One of the most common questions I get when doing the demo for Rezopia travel software is how travel providers can integrate maps and videos into their product pages.

There are several reasons why a tour operator, destination specialist or a hotel might want to do this.

1)      Rich and engaging content – While a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is probably worth two thousand. A 30 second video and good images are far more effective than pages of text describing your property or tour.

2)      Clue on Location – Using an embedded map, your customer can see how far the property is from the nearest airport, or whether the property is within walking distance to restaurants, famous attractions or the beach. You can use a map to route a complete itinerary for a packaged tour.

With Rezopia’s travel software, you can easily embed a Google Map or a YouTube video into the product pages.  Tour operators and travel suppliers can easily post a short clip about the tour or even add a review video that was authorized by the customer for public to see.

Our system is more than just an internet booking engine for hotels, tour operators, travel agencies and suppliers.  Rezopia gives you the flexibility to input your own content so you can offer more value to your customers.

Adapting to Changes in Travel Technology

Have you read the book “Who Moved My Cheese?” by Spencer Johnson?  It tells an amazing fable that mirrors how each of us reacts to change.  There are some that are stuck in the “maze”, doing the same things over and over again, yet expecting different results.  Then, there are some of us that accept change as a new opportunity and are enjoying every bit of it – with our newfound “cheese”.

To give you an overview, here are some of the quotes from the book:

  1. Change HappensThey Keep Moving The Cheese
  2. Anticipate Change. Get Ready For The Cheese To Move
  3. Monitor Change. Smell the Cheese Often So You Know When It Is Getting Old
  4. Adapt To Change Quickly. The Quicker You Let Go Of Old Cheese, The Sooner You Can Enjoy New Cheese
  5. Change. Move With The Cheese
  6. Enjoy Change. Savor The Adventure And Enjoy The Taste Of New Cheese

So what does this have to do with travel?  Remember those days when had to meet a travel agent at an office so we could book our vacation trips?  What’s more is we had to wait for the tickets and vouchers to get printed or mailed to our homes.  Sigh….those were the days.

who moved my cheese

The Travel Technology Cheese Keeps Moving

The travel market has gone through some significant shifts over the past few years. The Internet has given rise to large Online Travel Agencies such as Priceline and Expedia. Companies like Google and Kayak have made it easy for Travel Suppliers to go direct to consumers.  This has challenged the traditional travel intermediaries’ model of doing business. The smarter ones have monitored these changes, adapted themselves and been successful by focusing on specific destinations or specializations (adventure travel, sports travel, weddings, luxury).  It’s no longer about simply competing on price for selling air, car and hotel to the famous beach destination down south.

At Rezopia our goal has been to assist travel providers stay abreast of technology while the “cheese moves”. Many of our customers have evolved their business model from a traditional travel intermediary to destination specialists and are using Rezopia to offer dynamic packages and pre-packaged vacations to these destinations.

We understand that the “cheese” keeps moving – and it’s pretty fast too! Rezopia’s cloud based end to end travel reservation platform does not take years to deploy.  After signing up, you can be on your way within a few weeks!  You can access your Rezopia system virtually from anywhere that there’s an Internet connection. There’s absolutely no hardware to maintain and purchase.  At Rezopia we anticipate the “changes” in travel technology. Yesterday it was the Internet, today it is social media and tomorrow it will be mobile.  Rezopia moves along with the travel technology “cheese”, offering you updates on a regular basis. You no longer have to worry about technology, but rather focus on sales and marketing of your products.

Use Your Facebook Page to Gain More Clients

With everyone having an account on Facebook – yes, even my mom told me to get her one – travel professionals now have an easier way of expanding their market reach.  Rezopia acknowledges that our clients are consistently looking for ways to increase their revenues without out of control expenses; this is where social media definitely comes in handy.  Most businesses already have a Facebook Page established.  If you have not created one, it’s time to set it up.

Want ideas on how to use your Facebook Page to gain new clients?  Here are my top five.

Non fans vs Fans – add the iframe tab application then create two separate contents, for non-fans and fans.  Non fans would just see generic information.  Obviously, you want people to like your page and become fans so they get access to your specials and exciting deals.  YouTube offers great tutorials on how to setup these tabs.  Search for “facebook non fans tab”.

I Like, You Like! – find your suppliers and other business partners, and like their page.  Also try and comment on thFacebook for Travel Agencies, Tour Operatorseir posts once in a while. They would most likely return the favor.  This is great to show your fans that you are actively involved in the community.

Make Your Wall Move – be sure to post the latest updates on your wall also (promos, etc).  These announcements become part of your fans’ news feeds where they can make comments, like your post and even tag their friends to share your link or message.

If you are a Rezopia client, you already have the Facebook sharing button and tell a friend widget on each package page.  Once a user clicks on the Facebook icon and logs in, your package details are posted on the user’s wall for their entire friends list to see.

What Happened in Vegas Gets Posted on Facebook – okay, maybe not Vegas, but the point is you want your fans to share their awesome experience after booking their trips with you!  Once in a while, hold a “funniest” or “best” review on your page to engage your fans.  You can give them a free night at the hotel or free transfer on their next travel purchase.

They’re Only Humans – remember that you are there to socialize.  It’s not bad to insert some fun and humor as long as you don’t go overboard.  Gone are the times when everything was so formal – that’s called boring these days.
